Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under house arrest pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after "new facts" were revealed.

This encompassed trying to remove his ankle monitor and a summons to a public vigil that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, the judge said data from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Details of Guilty Verdict

Bolsonaro was found guilty of orchestrating a plot aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the presidential race to his political opponent, President Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a plan which encompassed plans to murder the current president and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to imprison and murder the presiding judge - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.
